Winasak ng Bureau of Customs (BOC) ang aabot sa mahigit ₱1.4 bilyon na halaga ng mga smuggled vape products sa isang isinagawang operasyon ngayong Huwebes, Oktubre 1.
Batay sa tala ng ahensya, nasa 3,174 kahon ng vape products mula sa mga brand na Chillax, Black Bar, at Shift ang nasabat at napag-alamang walang Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) tax stamps.
Nasabat ang mga vape product noong Marso, kasalukuyang taon sa naging operasyon sa Manila International Container port sa isa warehouse sa Maynila matapos mapag-alaman sa isang intelligence information at joint operation ng Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service-MICP at Philippine Coast Guard (PCG).
“We are witnessing the strong, unyielding resolve of our government to protect the public interest: protecting our citizens from potentially hazardous substances; helping safeguard government revenues meant to build schools, healthcare facilities, and public infrastructure; and ensuring a fair, predictable, and competitive market,” ayon pa kay Assistant Secretary Napao.
Matapos ang pagsasagawa ng pisikal na eksaminasyon at inbentaryo, sumailalim ito kalaunan sa Warrant of Seizure and Detention and Forfeiture Order na inilabas ng MICP sa pamumuno ni District Collector Atty. Geoffrey K. De Vera IV, na nagresulta sa pinal na pagkondena at pagsira sa mga nasabing produkto.
Upang hindi na magamit, maibenta at marecover ay gumamit ang Bureau of Customs ng roller compactor at pagkatapos ay isinailalim sa pag-spray ng tubig.
